Why go for a ski holiday
Hailing from eastern part of India, Kashmir is always fascinating to me. I certainly seen snow capped mountains in Darjeeling, but never had any opportunity to ski so far in my life. So, when my friend Mangal proposed a trip to Gulmarg with the idea to have skiing experience over there, I just couldn’t resist myself. Although I was little tense in the beginning, but the place and its surroundings was spell bounding which overwhelmed all other emotions or feelings? Obviously, all tensions and uneasiness vanished in thin air of Gulmarg. It is a three hours drive from Srinagar airport to Gulmarg. On the way, at Tanmarg we had a break for the lunch.
The weather as we arrived at Gulmarg was great but since it had not snowed to that extent to facilitate skiing, we simply were loitering around to have a taste of the place and the weather was ideally suited that. We experienced the right snow fall on the next day and had our inaugural skiing experience with the liberal guidance from our tour guide instructor.
While on the subject of skiing, one does need to have some sort of a preparation especially if he is a novice like me, to acquire the right clothes and shoes to start with. One can hire fleece jackets and gloves that are essentials. The skis and other gear are available in all sizes from adventure gear shop. It is better for the first timer to enroll with a reputed tour company who prepares you well before the trip to Gulmarg or anyother place for skiing.
Skiing is really quite physically demanding . A novice will certainly find it difficult to stand on his legs long and will fall repeatedly to start with. In the beginning one may think it is very easy to get on to the ski lift but soon one will know how tricky it is.
