Arvis Northrops articles and travel stories make the connection between conventional travel and eco travel. Ecotourism, eco travel and responsible travel are most often identified as adventures in remote areas, such as river rafting in Costa Rica.

Arvis’ advocacy for responsible travel also brings awareness to the fact that when we travel within our own hometown and our favorite local vacation destinations, we can be aware of our impact on our environment. There’s eco travel at home too! We can seek out services in our destinations that are supporting eco-friendly standards of operating; businesses that support us in being respectful of the destination while enjoying the benefits of leisure, recreation and business travel.

As one of the original Audubon Societies in the country, Connecticut Audubon Society (CAS) has held a 110 year responsibility to educate people about sound conservation practices. Today we have six teaching facilities, a legislative office, numerous sanctuaries and preserves, and an office devoted to EcoTravel. We are excited about continuing this growth and helping others to learn about the natural world around them. CAS has long been at the forefront of developing environmental and natural history education programs in Connecticut, and now does so on a national level through its EcoTravel program. CAS is a non-profit organization founded in 1898 and has 501(c)(3) status.

Ecotravel Mongolia was founded by Yo.Dashdorj in 1995 and is a small, family run business. This is one of the very few tourist companies in Mongolia where services are provided mostly by its owners themselves together with employed staff. It means that quality of services is very personal and very much flexible and oriented towards clients needs.

This is also one of the very few companies in Mongolia that specializes in horseback trips and nomadic home-stays with authentic nomadic families. While Mongolia is seen as country of vast spaces and horses, surprisingly, horse back trips are arranged mostly on ad hoc basis by the companies. This is due mostly to the fact that logistically if there are no readily available herds and wranglers it is difficult to arrange tours. The owner of the company, Mr. Yo.Dashdorj, is himself was born and raised in the nomadic family and, hence, his extended family is a logistics point for the company. Same goes for the home-stays with nomadic families.
